Exercise Your
Rights!
DON'T PAY MORE THAN YOUR FAIR
SHARE OF PROPERTY TAXES IN 2009!
August will be a very important month for many South Florida
homeowners. You will be receiving your Notice of Proposed
Property Taxes, also known as the
Truth in Millage (TRIM) Notice. This document
is provided by the County Property Appraiser to all property
owners as required by law.
The TRIM Notice tells you the taxable value
of your property and provides information on proposed millage
rates and taxes as estimated by your County taxing authority,
which includes the County Commission, School Board, Cities,
etc.
The TRIM Notice also gives you information
on proposed millage rates and taxes as estimated by your county
taxing authorities. This notice will help you determine
whether your property taxes are
over-valued. If you believe they are you will only have
25 days from the mailing date
of your Truth in Millage (TRIM) Notice to file
an appeal to dispute the Property Appraiser’s valuation of your
home. Time is of the essence. You should plan
ahead to be prepared to appeal your property
taxes.
Real Estate Values Decreased
Substantially The Last 12 Months
Let’s face it; the real estate market in South Florida has
substantially declined in the past 12 months. Many of you have
seen the value of your homes plummet and may even be upside
down on your mortgages. The true value of your home may not
even be close to what the
County Property Appraiser assessed it at.
Times are tough and families are
struggling to make ends meet. You and your
family should not have to pay more than your fair share of
property taxes!
